At C&C Homestead we are thrilled to share our newest special project: theSnowcrest hybrid. This unique cross between an Appenzeller Spitzhauben rooster
and a Leghorn hen combines the best traits of both breeds, resulting in a beautiful, elegant bird that we can’t help but adore.
Our very first Snowcrest, Elsa, has completely stolen our hearts. She is mostly white with soft splashes of gray, giving her a graceful, snow-dusted appearance that inspired her name. Elsa is built like a classic Leghorn, with a slim, athletic frame, upright posture, and high-set tail feathers. However, she also sports a dainty crest inherited from her Spitzhauben father, reminiscent of the Legbar crest, which gives her a unique and charming look.
Elsa has a sweet and friendly personality, earning her the nickname "our little lovebug." She is curious and sociable, happily following us around the yard and interacting with other flock members. As she grows and transitions into the flock, we’re excited to watch her develop into a productive and well-rounded addition to our farm.
The Snowcrest hybrid is more than just another bird—it’s a special project that embodies the joy of breeding for both beauty and functionality. With Elsa as our inspiration, we’re excited to offer this stunning hybrid to our community. Snowcrests are not only excellent layers of white eggs, but they also bring elegance and charm to any backyard flock with their snowy plumage, compact crest, and lively personalities.
If you’re looking for a bird that’s as productive as it is beautiful, the Snowcrest might just be your next favorite flock member. Stay tuned as we continue to develop this hybrid, and don’t miss your chance to add a little snowy magic to your coop!
